We thank the Independent Expert for his effort and insightful oral update on the human rights situation in the Central African Republic.
The ongoing instability, conflict and grave human rights violations in the CAR can be traced back to over a decade and we remain deeply concerned by its fragile security situation.
In this light, the civilians of the Central African Republic must be guaranteed of their right to social protection and provided with the opportunities, facilities and means to develop physically, psychologically, and spiritually under conditions of freedom and dignity.
In a world increasingly plagued by the atrocities of war, geopolitical instability, and climate change - it must be a global priority for individuals to be entitled to their fundamental human rights and freedoms.
In fact, the security situation remains alarming- children and women continue to be victims of violence perpetrated by armed groups. The children of the CAR must be allowed to learn, grow in an atmosphere of affection and security, and most importantly embellish with dignity.
Ma’onah and Geneva International Centre for Justice emphasise that he rights of Central Africans must not remain mere words, they require concrete action; it is the responsibility of the Council and the international community to ensure the redoublement of efforts to protect the civilians, ensure accountability for all violations, and promote justice in the Central African Republic. Moreover, we also call for the full implementation of the peace agreement and the strengthening of transitional justice mechanisms.
