We Tore Down a House. THIS is What's Left. Outdoor Kitchen Build #12

If you like history or beautiful old wood, this one's for you.

The old house that used to stand on the Spur Kitchen property was built in 1911. We demolished it in 2021 because of safety concerns. In 2023 we used some of that wood for flooring in the Ridge Cabin (check out those videos!) and earlier this year, more of that wood was reused for cabinetry and trim in the Spur Cabin itself.

Re-purposing and reusing materials in this fashion is SO rewarding! First there's the simple satisfaction of saving money. To "finish" the wall in the Spur Kitchen costs me exactly NOTHING (not counting the nails). Second, the beauty of these patina-loaded planks is unmatched, and just can't be duplicated by modern factories that 'try to make things look old.' Third, the honor of tucking this football of the past under my arm and carrying it into the next historic endzone is palpable.

Simply put, by breathing new life into these boards, the old house lives on.

This episode is jamb-packed and includes some last-minute basic wiring, footage of the aftermath of that wildfire you witnessed a couple videos ago, and more awesome scenery.

Oh, and see if you can guess the old item I bought for the new kitchen. Hint: it's old! Did I say that already...?
