Caressing Evening Grosbeaks [Apr-18-2022]

This is hard to achieve and it took a long time. To touch and pet an Evening Grosbeak is something I would have previously thought to be impossible since its temperament is so very different than that of the Pine Grosbeak which I have had the joy of caressing in the past. This is the second year a flock of Evening Grosbeaks has been at my feeder, they stay from about February until some time in May. Caressing a wild bird is the maximum possible level of intimate interaction one could hope for with a wild bird. It requires the most careful and steady movements to avoid expressions of abrupt energy which would certainly scare them away. This sort of pursuit necessitates regular long term up-close interaction with a flock so that a consensus of general safety is agreed upon by them whereby they begin to permit certain movements that would normally scare them away. For me, an accomplishment like this is equally as satisfying as writing a piece of music I am happy with.
