I've been using the August Gen 4 Wifi door lock and aside from the batteries running out, I've been happy. So being a geek I wanted to hard wire my August lock and decided to make a video about how I did it. It's relatively easy and has been working very well. A couple notes about this:
1) ** Don't use batteries if you hard wire this way. It's not safe. **
2) If there is a power outage your lock won't function electronically so always have a backup key. This is also true on batteries.

07:07 Disconnect backup battery
07:40 Full access to the lock circuitry

11:26 How I determined where to power the lock
12:51 Adding flux to solder DC power wires in place
13:46 Prevent wire rub on rotating lock body and where to drill rear plate hole
15:55 Reattach backup battery and reassemble
16:48 Screw rear cover back onto lock body
17:29 Lock reassembled
18:13 Attaching the DC Power Supply
20:16 Connecting DC power to test if the August lock works

To solder these wire I used my temperature controlled Weller soldering iron at 750 degrees F.
The wire I used was actually 22 AWG ~$12:

The exact power supply I used was the 6V 5A version found here ~$16:

But I do think the 6V 3A would be more than fine ~$12:
