Tests of grass dikes in wave flume

Deltares carried out large-scale physical model tests in the Delta flume to determine the residual strength of grass on dikes under wave attack. This research contributes to an improved assessment method of grass covered dikes. This means that in the future, fewer dikes will be mistakenly declared unsafe, thus reducing the cost to society. Grass blocks of 2m x 2m x 0.8m were taken from two different existing dikes and brought to the Delta flume. The project is commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat and is carried out within the framework of th eproject WTI-2017.
