南外輪山に降った雨が地下水となって湧き出している水源です。小さな池に見えますがその湧水量は1秒に2トン、毎分120トン、1日17万2千トンという膨大な量で周囲の水田350ヘクタールを潤しています。水底の砂を吹き上げながら噴出する様子は圧巻です。
The water from this spring was once rain that fell in southern Aso and filtered into groundwater. This spring may look small, but it actually pumps out two tons of water per second, or 172,000 tons per day! The water is used to irrigate 350 hectares (865 acres) of neighboring fields. Be sure to look closely for where the water bubbles up through the sandy bottom of the spring.
