Footage of the 1989 "Großer Zapfenstreich" military tattoo for the 40th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic.
The "Grand Tattoo" is an old Prussian military tradition where musicians perform historical songs, hymns, marches, fanfares, as well as contemporary musical pieces. This was the last Zapfenstreich to be performed by the National People's Army before East and West Germany reunified in 1990.
The tradition is still carried on to this day by the current Federal German Armed Forces.
