In 1894 a series of brutal attacks took place on lone women who were making their way through the nigh time streets of Kensington, in west London.
The perpetrator of the crimes was a veiled woman, dressed all in black, and it wasn't long before the newspapers were referring to the assailant as "the woman in black," and were comparing her crimes to those of Jack the Ripper from six years previous.
In this video, you will hear the full story of this little known crime spree, and learn how there were rumours in the district that the attacker was the wife of a member of the House of Lords.
It wasn't long before reports began to appear that the woman had become the subject of an official cover up, as her family took decisive action to keep her identity hidden from the prying eyes of the general public.
