Our school choir performed a song called ‘Banaha’. This is a Congolese Folk Song. The literal translation is, “At the foot of the pineapple tree, Yaku ladles a banana into his Aunt's red hat.” Yet this song has become about so much more. Soldiers returning from war sang it in the trucks, joyful to be alive, as they were returning to their loved ones. The song itself became an expression of the joy of living. It is now sung all over the world. Our sang in 3-part harmony.
