Haw Par Mansion TIGER BALM Garden – Guided Tour

Tiger Balm Garden (named after the famous Tiger Balm Ointment) and the Haw Par Mansion and its private garden were built in 1936. With the Tiger Balm Garden being open for free for the enjoyment of the public.
In 2000, Haw Par Mansion and its private garden as well as the adjoining Tiger Balm Garden were acquired by a property developer, with which the Hong Kong government reached an agreement to preserve Haw Par Mansion; while the Tiger Balm Garden was redeveloped into a residential housing estate.

The Mansion and its private garden were surrendered to the Hong Kong government in 2001 and sat idle for a number of years.

Between 2019 to 2022 the site operated as the Haw Par Music Farm Chinese and Western music school.

After ceasing operation as a Music School the Haw Par Mansion and Private Garden has been opened for public guided tours hosted by the Hong Kong Antiquities and Monuments Office.

While the Tiger Balm Garden may be lost to time forever, to make way for ‘The Legend’ Highrise residential development, select artifacts from the Tiger Balm Garden have been saved from demolition and now can be found throughout the Haw Par Mansion Private Garden and the surrounding area at the new pedestrian access point off Tai Hang Road.
