Varanus albigularis ionidesi — also known as the Black Throat Monitor — is a powerful, heavy-bodied monitor lizard native to Tanzania and closely related to the White Throat and Rock Monitors. While many keepers claim they’re easier to tame, they can still be jumpy and reactive, especially as they grow up to 6–7 feet in length.
In this video, we walk through practical handling tips, taming foundations, and how to safely prepare your Black Throat Monitor for leash training. These monitors are incredible pets when raised with patience and proper husbandry.
