CONTEXT : On 26 December 2004, the Republic of Nalmal experienced one of the most severe natural disasters in its modern history. At approximately 07:15 NLT, a magnitude 8.1 undersea earthquake struck the Nalmal Ocean, located to the southeast of the country. The earthquake triggered a massive tsunami, sending powerful waves racing toward Nalmal’s coastline.
The tsunami posed an immediate threat to the Nalme Bay and Greenville regions, both of which are low-lying coastal areas with significant residential and commercial settlements. Waves were reported to reach several meters in height, sweeping away structures, flooding coastal roads, and disrupting communications.
