Severalls Asylum / Hospital | Colchester

This place was HELLA SPOOKY.

A brief history of Severalls Hospital/Asylum:

Severalls Hospital faithfully served Colchester and the wider community for almost 90 years before finally succumbing to the Mental Health Act & "Care in the community", Closing it's doors forever in March of 1997.

This hospital housed a wide range of patients from all backgrounds, there were padded cells, restraints and isolation units. There are rumours that the hospital conducted awful tests and inhuman treatments on patients behind closed doors.

Nowadays the asylum is fenced off and condemned. Large swathes of land have been sold off to developers to build new housing, apartments and schools.
