How to use the grid drawing method to improve your portrait art. Do you feel like your drawings are a bit off? One way to help you nail drawing proportions is using the grid drawing method. Here’s how I draw the grid on my sketch paper and on the reference photo using the free image editor GIMP (version 3.10). Then you can copy the reference image square by square or use it as guideline while sketching more freely.
