Med Cruise Sun Princess - P9 The Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica, Trevi Fountain & the Pantheon.

Today is the last day of our Mediterranean Vacation. On our way to the Vatican we made a few stops at the Trevi Fountain and The Pantheon. The Trevi Fountain is beautiful and it was such a blessing to be able to stand in front of this historical monument. This fountain still runs off of the original aqueducts from the Roman Empire. Unfortunately it was not on yet but we still had a long day ahead of us. Our next stop was the Pantheon. When we visit locations like this I try to imagine how it would have been during this era. It's one thing to go and see but the history of these places are amazing. Our final stop was the Vatican which we booked through Viator. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We were told that the Vatican was very strict re having your shoulders and knees covered in order to enter. There an NUMEROUS vendors outside of the entrance happy to sell you a wrap to cover any exposed areas you may have. There were a few people in our group that would have fell into that category but our tour guide said that some days it's an issue but most of the time they don't care. Once again, the history inside of the Vatican is amazing. There are statues, tapestries, and paintings everywhere. We were told that anything in St. Peter's Basilica that looks Gold is actually Gold leaf and not paint. As you can see in our video and photos inside of St. Peter's, there's a lot of GOLD. It is so beautiful in person and photos do not do it justice. By the time we got to St. Peter's we were done. The hall of statues and tapestries are not air conditioned. we would walk as fast as we could to any open windows to catch some type of relief from the 90 degree 80+ humidity day. If we ever make it back to the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica is somewhere I would want to go back to.

If you're new to cruising you'll find that you're never in a port long enough to see everything you want to see. It's generally a taster to see if this is somewhere you would want to come back to as a non-cruise trip and spend more time. We also found that there is never enough time in a day to see everything you want to see just visiting somewhere like Rome, Florence or Athens. We had so many places we wanted to see but due to the heat and humidity, our plans had to be modified. We enjoyed every second we were blessed to visit.
