Perched in the hills of Montego Bay, White Witch Golf Course is one of Jamaica’s most scenic and challenging layouts. Part of the Rose Hall property—alongside Cinnamon Hill—this course is just a short 10-minute cart ride from its sister course and conveniently close to many of Montego Bay’s best resorts.
Named after Annee Palmer, the infamous "White Witch" of Rose Hall, the course carries an air of legend and mystery. Palmer, an early 19th-century plantation mistress, was rumored to have practiced voodoo and was said to have been responsible for the deaths of her three husbands and countless others. Whether or not you believe the tales, the dramatic landscape of White Witch certainly adds to its mystique.
Course Layout & Playability
White Witch is carved through thick tropical vegetation, featuring dramatic elevation changes and breathtaking panoramic views of both the ocean and surrounding mountains. While none of the holes play directly along the coastline, nearly every hole offers a stunning ocean view, making it one of the most picturesque courses in the Caribbean.
Despite being a more challenging layout than a typical resort course, White Witch is fair, with generously wide fairways that provide a playable experience for most skill levels. However, when the wind picks up—especially given its location in the mountains—the course can become significantly more demanding.
Course Conditions & Experience
While I typically avoid commenting on course conditions due to their ever-changing nature, the greens at White Witch were in noticeably poor shape, making putting and chipping particularly difficult. Multiple sources, both on and off the property, informed me that the greens suffered after an unsuccessful resurfacing attempt in 2019. That said, the course remains an enjoyable and a worthwhile play for golfers visiting Jamaica.
Final Thoughts
Despite the condition of the greens, I still recommend White Witch. The layout, scenery, and overall experience make it a must-play if you're in Montego Bay, and the cost is reasonable compared to many other resort courses. Customer service was excellent at both White Witch and Cinnamon Hill, and the mandatory caddie experience was a highlight. For just $20 (plus a well-deserved tip), the caddies provide invaluable course knowledge, green reading, and engaging conversation—something that truly enhances the round.
For golfers seeking a challenging and visually stunning course, White Witch delivers. It’s a round that leaves an impression—both for its beauty and the legend that surrounds it.
