The METAL GEAR SOLID series is world renown, largely in part for its sociopolitical themes. These games by famed auteur Hideo Kojima have never shied away from criticizing military power, particularly that of the United States.
But is MGS more than a mere anti-American game? What few seem to grasp is that Kojima is in fact, a pacifist, and his flagship series has always been primarily not anti-US but anti-war.
In this brief video, join me as I go through each MGS in turn, highlighting how it responds or references aspects to the era of Japanese fascist totalitarianism that many in the West may have missed over the years.
