ATLANTIC DASH 2026: Lanzarote to Antigua (3,200 miles) | Mr TravelON goes onboard

This weekend Playa Blanca is hosting something that honestly sounds mad until you see it up close.

The Atlantic Dash 2026 is an ocean rowing challenge where crews row 3,200 miles across the Atlantic from Marina Rubicón, Lanzarote all the way to Antigua, finishing at Jolly Harbour Marina.

What is the Atlantic Dash (and is it a race?)

The Atlantic Dash calls itself an endurance adventure first, not some elite “win at all costs” race. But let’s be real… plenty of teams still want bragging rights and to be the first to land in Antigua.

It’s also one of those events that shocks people because the boats are tiny for what they’re doing. No support boat. No quick exit. Just you, the ocean, and a rowing schedule that takes over your entire life.

How long does it take to row from Lanzarote to Antigua?

Most crossings sit roughly between 30 and 80 days, depending on conditions and crew size.

And they launch in late January for a reason: it’s inside the main Atlantic crossing season when trade winds are more stable, and it keeps crews clear of the Caribbean hurricane season later in the year.

What’s onboard (the stuff people don’t realise)

These crews aren’t just rowing. They’re basically running a floating survival routine.

A few key bits of reality:

Crews must complete mandatory training and safety checks before they’re allowed to leave Lanzarote

The boats need to be able to self-right if they capsize

They don’t carry weeks of water, they use a desalination unit to turn sea water into drinking water

Food is mostly rehydrated meals, and the recommended intake is around 6,000 calories a day because you burn through everything out there

Many crews row in shifts (often 2 hours on, 2 hours off) around the clock, but teams choose what works for them

How much does it cost to enter?

The official entry fees for the Atlantic Dash are listed as £14,000 per boat plus £1,000 per person (so the total depends if you’re solo, pair, trio or four).

Who’s taking part in 2026?

There are a mix of crews and boat setups, and a lot of them are rowing for charity too. You’ll hear directly from the teams in the video, and you can also see the 2026 crew list online.
