Forced Choices is a compelling short documentary from Uganda’s climate frontlines—Napak District in the Karamoja sub-region and Adjumani District in West Nile—revealing how climate change is reshaping the lives, bodies, and futures of women and girls.
As droughts intensify, rainfall patterns shift, and livelihoods collapse, climate change is driving food insecurity, poverty, and displacement. In these fragile contexts, women and adolescent girls face devastating trade-offs that directly affect their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR)—including early marriage, transactional sex, limited access to reproductive health services, and increased exposure to gender-based violence.
Through powerful personal testimonies and community voices, Forced Choices shows how climate injustice deepens gender inequality and erodes bodily autonomy. The film highlights an urgent truth: SRHR and climate resilience are deeply interconnected, and climate responses that ignore gender and health leave the most vulnerable behind.
This story calls on policymakers, development partners, and climate actors to adopt gender-responsive and rights-based climate solutions that protect dignity, health, and choice—especially for women and girls living on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
