In May 2025, regenerative grazing workshops were held across three South Australian regions — the Mallee, the Rangelands, and the Hills. This video showcases the Hills workshop, held in the heart of the region at Macclesfield Hall. You’ll also find the Mallee and Rangeland sessions in this playlist — find the one that suits your landscape best!
Colin Seis and Alejandro Carrillo are internationally regarded as pioneers in regenerative grazing, with decades of experience restoring landscapes through livestock management. Colin, hailing from New South Wales, is renowned for developing pasture cropping and transforming his sheep property, while Alejandro has transformed his ranch in Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert — both using holistic management and regenerative practices. This workshop brought them together in the Hills for a rare and powerful exchange of ideas.
Hosted at Macclesfield Hall, this free workshop gave producers the opportunity to learn directly from these two masters. Through stories, humour, and practical strategies, Colin and Alejandro shared how carefully managed grazing can regenerate soil, improve the water cycle, and increase pasture diversity. Their insights are practical, adaptable, and deeply relevant for farmers preparing for future drought.
This event is part of the Perennial Pastures for Drought Defence Project, which supports producers in low and medium rainfall regions with tools for pasture planning, establishment, and regenerative grazing systems. Everyone is welcome to join this growing community of practice.
We thank Colin and Alejandro for their insights and openness, and the Hills community for coming together to share, learn, and inspire. Thanks also to the presenters for their generosity in allowing this session to be recorded and made publicly available.
