What Is Biblical Redemption? | Philippians: The A-Life Mentality (Part 7)

How does the Bible define redemption, and is it the same as religion? The A-Life demands a redemption mentality, not a “religion” mentality. Biblical redemption is not the same as religion.

• Religion: A particular system of faith or worship.
• Redemption: The action of saving or being saved from sin, error, or evil.

We are saved only by Christ’s work for us, and not by our work for Christ. Our work, no matter how righteous or religious, has no power to save us!

Religion brings comparison and exhaustion. When you compare yourself to Christ, you realize that everything you’ve achieved and done is rubbish compared to Him. Trying to work and earn your way into heaven is like telling Jesus that what He did for you on the cross wasn’t enough.

Biblical redemption is based on love and relationship. Our relationship with God is not based on keeping a list. It’s based on love. God declares us righteous when we put our faith in Christ’s work alone.

After salvation, our faith compels us to do works for Jesus. You will do good works because you love Jesus, not because you have to earn His love.
