In this video, I’ll show you a simple classic name game you can use in your first lesson with young English learners. It’s easy, playful, and helps everyone feel part of the group from the start.
I like using ice breakers right from the very first lesson. They take the pressure off, help students get to know each other, and set a positive, lively tone in the class.
One I always go back to is a really simple classic name game in circle time. Works well with young language learners because you’re not putting them on the spot or asking too much at once. Lots of repetition and practice, and it’s genuinely fun for everyone.
No pressure – perfect for easing nerves
Easy & playful – keeps students engaged
Repetitive practice – reinforces names and builds confidence
Inclusive – helps new students feel part of the group
Give it a try in your first lesson and let me know how it goes
