Finishing my first miniature of 2026—a Crucible Guard Toro warjack for Warmachine! In this hobby vlog, I tackle custom washes, true metallic metal highlights, and pushing through painting mistakes.
I start by rolling dice from my cool new dragon-filled resin set to randomly select this week's Dolmenwood monster project (landed on a Breggle!). Then it's back to the Toro with homemade washes: brownish decay and grim black mixed for the silver, purplish red for the gold to give it that rich, luxurious look.
The wash process is where things get real—I share my mistakes (coffee staining from too much water, wash running down the legs) and how to fix them with highlights. The gold gets edge highlights with scratchy cross-hatch strokes, while the silver gets cleaned up to restore brightness.
For the green panels, I use glazes to smooth out transitions where the airbrush work got messed up, showing that you can save a paint job even when things go wrong. Edge highlighting with warm white brings everything together, using the side of the brush for clean lines.
The most important lesson? Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. From tabletop distance, this Toro looks amazing despite all the issues I'm critical of up close. That's what matters for gaming miniatures.
