A spiritual dance by monks wearing masks representing deities and spiritual guardians at the Drub-chod-Chen-Mo Cum Bomdila Torgya ceremony in the Upper Gompa of the Gontse Gaden Rabgyel Ling Monastery. This is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Bomdila, in Arunachal Pradesh, far northeast India, on 13 November 2023. It is accompanied by the sounds of two “dungchen” (a long horn), cymbals and drums. At the end, a "clown" also wearing a mask joins in, providing light relief during the performance; they sometimes seem to mock the dancers; this is all part of the otherwise solemn occasion. After their dance, they return to the temple, accompanied up the stairs by another monk. Recording date: 13 November 2023.
