In Part 1 of this aircraft painting series, I introduce the aircraft paint process from an owner’s perspective and explain why it’s critical to understand more than just colors and finishes. Aircraft painting is a complex, labor-intensive process that can impact safety, maintenance, and long-term aircraft value if it’s not done correctly.

I want you to know what happens throughout the paint process, what aircraft owners should expect when working with a paint shop, and common things to watch out for along the way. I also encourage owners to learn more about the paint industry as a whole, how shops operate, how to ask the right questions, and how informed decision-making can help prevent costly mistakes.
This series is designed to give aircraft owners better insight into the paint process so they can approach it with a safety-first mindset and confidence in their choices.
