Welcome back to Travels with my Dad! It’s the 5th out of 7 episodes in this series and if we’re honest, this is the one Dane and I were looking forward to the most - because Dad had NO IDEA it was coming. Plus, as an animal lover this is a dream come true for Dad! (ok fine, and for me)

We’re in the Malaysia part of Borneo, taking a 3 day, 2 night river safari with Borneo Eco Tours and everything is taken care of, completely stress free and such an incredible experience. The tour is a combination of safari river cruises, guided exploring and short walks while staying in the rainforest Taking a tour is the only real option to really get out and see the wildlife, as you’ll pretty quickly see, Kurt is a legend and knows all the best spots to go and looked after us from start to finish. Before we went deep into the rain forest though we got to learn more about the orangutans of Borneo, which are sadly endangered. As part of the tour we stopped at Sepilok Orangutan Rehab Centre to see how they’re being prepared to go back into the wild, to increase their numbers and keep them thriving.

Then it was time to head onto the boat and make our way 2.5 hours up into the rain forest to Sukau rainforest lodge, an award winner and the only National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World in Malaysia! Sleeping in the rain forest with monkeys around, wild orangutans in the trees, the river running in the distance - it’s perfection and the staff are SO lovely
