Chikmagalur, known officially as Chikkamagaluru, located on the foothills of the Mullayanagiri peak of the Western Ghats, the city attracts tourists from around the state for its pleasant and favourable hill station climate, tropical rainforest and coffee estates.Chikmagalur is one of the most picturesque and tranquil tourist destinations in Karnataka.On visiting Chikmagalur you would be mesmerised by the aroma of the coffee plantations. Also known as the Land of coffee, Chikmagalur literally translates as 'Young Daughter's Town'. Legends have it that Chikmagalur was presented as dowry to the younger daughter of the Chief of Sakrepatna, Rukmangada.

A small hill station in the Western Ghats, the area of which covers a distance of 30 square Kms, Chikmagalur makes for an ideal weekend getaway from Bangalore or a short vacation travel destination. The weather is very conducive and climatic conditions vary from moderate to cool and makes for a great year-round visit.
Chikmagalur is also historically known to have planted the first coffee plantation in India in the late 1600s. Its bountiful greens along with the rich heritage make it a worthwhile place to visit.
