The Rang Ghar, in Assamese "House of Entertainment", is a two-storeyed building once served as the royal sports-pavilion where Ahom kings and noblemen were spectators at games like elephant, buffalo, cock fights etc.
Talatal Ghar, near Sivasagar town, was built to accommodate royalties as well as an army base. The palace consisted of 7 storeys, of which 4 storeys can be seen above ground and the other 3 underground storeys were sealed and filled during the British era.
The royal apartments were located in the upper floors, the ground storey as horse stables, store rooms, servant quarters etc., and the underground storeys for escaping the enemies through built-in tunnels.
