Deadly collapse of Islamic school in Indonesia

Rescuers in Indonesia have been working to free survivors after a boarding school in East Java collapsed on September 30, 2025. At least one pupil was killed, dozens were injured and 65 were presumed buried in the rubble. Emergency crews tried to get oxygen and water to students trapped in the unstable concrete rubble. Rescuers, police and soldiers digging through the night pulled out eight weak and injured survivors more than eight hours after the collapse at Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in the East Java town of Sidoarjo. Rescuers reported seeing additional bodies, indicating that the death toll was likely to rise.
