My long overdue video revisiting Night Time Sky Flats, or UPPDMAT. UPPDMAT is a version of Night Flats, which are a type of calibration frame used along with Darks, Dark Flats, and Bias Frames. You can eliminate or greatly reduce most hard-to-process visual artifacts caused by stray light sources, dust motes, smudges, city sky glow, etc. using this extremely simple and dirt cheap approach to Flat Calibration Frames. Whereas Night Flats typically rely on pointing to a patch of sky where there are few stars, and unfocusing the telescope, UPPDMAT uses a semi-transparent diffuser, so you don't have to refocus or re-orient the telescope. I use this sky flat filter with my Celestron NexStar 6SE, my portable 300mm rig, and even my DSLR. It take 5 minutes to generate the flats (10s each, 30 frames is more than enough).
Thanks for watching, and Clear Skies!
