After watching season 6 and seeing the tik tok brain rot take over the Cobra Community, I decided to take a closer look at Daniel’s character throughout this season and see if he’s truly a “Mr Miyagi glazer”. I think the first thing we could do is analyze how these two met. Which was through Daniel knowing him firstly as the guy who helped fix his pipes. But later, after seeing Daniel getting jumped by Johnny and the other cobra Kai’s, he’d swoop in to the rescue, nearly giving Tommy brain damage. After this, we see Daniel trying to learn karate but initially as a way to get revenge, which Miyagi would tell him this isn’t the way. As we know Daniel begins learning Karate under Miyagi, with the philosophy of it primarily being used for Self Defense and to use it to better yourself. That way you’re able to find balance, which is a lesson not just for karate, but rather for “whole life” in the words of the man himself. You see this is very important for Daniel because before this point he’s never had a fatherly figure give him such genuine advice or help him out like Miyagi. Yes Daniel had his mom but this was really the only person he had left from his past, while everyone else was left in Jersey. Miyagi was not only the first friend of Daniel’s from his new home, but also the first person Daniel could rely on like a son to a father. Which is why I always appreciate the scene of Karate kid 2 at the beginning, to show the huge contrast between Danny and Miyagis relationship, compared to Johnny and Kreeses. After the trilogy, we technically don’t see what happens within the 30 years, but luckily Cobra Kai gives us a lot of insight on the inbetween before Miyagi’s passing. We know Miyagi was there when both Sam and Anthony were born, along with teaching Daniel karate from time to time, showing him the two legged kick. Miyagi was in Daniel’s life even after the trilogy ended, showing that this bond they have is not just a mentor student one clearly. Which is why to me the whole “Mr Miyagi Glaze” memes kinda bother me. Even going into Cobra Kai, we know that Miyagi was Family to not just Daniel but the LaRusso family as a whole. And even with JUST the context of only Cobra Kai, the “glazing” isn’t like that at all. We see Daniel without Miyagi's guidance genuinely panicking like how he did when he was 18 years old, only now this is happening when he’s a husband and father. It makes it even funnier too that Daniel by the time of season 3, is the same age as when Miyagi met Daniel. Showing just how lost Daniel really is compared to Miyagi, and funnily enough this is foreshadowed for Season 6 as, we do find out later that Miyagi did in fact not have it all figured out and was not embracing the way of balance his whole life. Which in my opinion, reinforces what Daniel learned in the last 2 seasons. Not only did Daniel stop believing his way is always the right way, but he even adopted his natural killer instinct within his Miyagi do style, thanks to not only Johnny & Chozen, but also his other Sensei from the past, Terry Silver. So going into Season 6 we see that Daniel has pretty much found the balance he was looking for, but everything takes a turn for the worse once he and Chozen move that bed. You see, Daniel would discover some unhidden truths about Miyagi, showing that he may not be the saint he always seemed to be in Daniel’s eyes. Now we know from other Miyagi Do users like Chozen that there are offensive techniques that are used for war, but Daniel never would’ve thought that Miyagi himself was capable of this. Of course Daniel is going to feel some type of way, Which is exactly why we see him trying to push the “Miyagi Do” way as hard as he does in this specific season. And the moment slot of people like to call him out on is specifically against Tory? No kid should have to fight for a tournament spot while going through such emotional turmoil. And you guys seem to forget that Daniel lost a parental figure, he understands to an extent where Tory is coming from. The show does this all the time and I even have videos going over there specific arguments if you want a more in depth look at that cough shameless plug. And in Part 2 I do believe Johnny will be the person to help Daniel find some clarity and acknowledge that Miyagi may have had a rough past, but the lessons he taught and the bond they had was still very real, and I hope we get to see that + Daniel getting his head back in the game.
