This mountain road in Norway just opened! Røldalsfjellet - 2024

Join us today as we take our campervan to Røldalsfjellet. The road has just opened for the summer, and we are looking for walls of snow on the side of the road!
This road is part of something called the national tourist roads, and there are several of these in Norway and they all have a few things in common: They are old, narrow roads with spectacular scenery and some pretty cool restareas, lookoutpoints and artistic toilets scattered along the route.
This particular route is called National touristroad Ryfylke, and this is Allmannajuvet. One of those attractions along the road. This used to be an old zinc mine over 100 years ago, but today, you can have coffe in the restaurant and visit the old mines on the other side of the river. All the buildings are designed by Peter Zumtorp, a really famous architect.
Parts of this road is closed during winter, but as soon as spring arrives, the work to clear it for snow starts. This year it was early, 15th of May. Other years it has been in the middle of june, all depending on the amount of snow.
