RTÉ News reports on the death of two-time All Ireland Senior Football Championship winning manager John O'Mahony.
A proud son of Kilmovee in County Mayo, O'Mahony found success managing not only his home county, but also Leitrim and Galway, but his greatest triumphs were undoubtedly guiding Galway to the 1998 and 2001 All Ireland Senior Football Championship titles. In total, O’Mahony won eight Connacht Senior Football Championship titles as manager, three with his native Mayo, one with Leitrim and four with Galway – the most of any manager in the competition’s history.
Away from sport, O'Mahony also had a career in politics, being elected as a Fine Gael TD for Mayo at the 2007 General Election and serving in that position until 2016.
