Can AI Help Our Kids Read? The Project Read Story - Full Documentary

Only 1 in 3 American fourth graders can read proficiently, and the literacy crisis in the U.S. is worse than ever. Research shows that a student who struggles to read by fourth grade is unlikely to ever catch up to their peers, and four times less likely to graduate high school.

In this short documentary, learn how one community is turning to artificial intelligence to help solve a decades-long literacy crisis. We follow Viv Ramakrishnan—former educator turned co-founder & CEO of Project Read AI—as he travels back to his home state of Wisconsin, which has the second-largest Black-White literacy gap in the country.

Viv works side by side with educators and students to prototype a new feature within Project Read’s AI Tutor designed to support continuous blending, a critical foundational skill for students learning to decode words.
