MrShades RI9480 EU Gaggia Classic 2019 turning on and off with Alexa

Many people will wonder what this video is all about - anyone can use a WiFi smart plug to turn a coffee machine on and off right?

Well the RI9480 European spec Gaggia Classic 2019+ has a stupid spring loaded on/off switch along with an internal timer board that turns the machine off after being idle for 20 minutes.

This mod - from www.shadesofcoffee.co.uk - provides a traditional style 0/1 rocker switch (the same as used on the US Gaggia Classic Pro) along with some slight internal rewiring (new wires and full instructions are included with the kit).

So - you can now just install the mod kit and a new 0/1 rocker switch, and leave your machine switched “on” - and then control it with your favourite WiFi smart switch and voice assistant... such as the Alexa example in this video.

The mod also bypasses the echo timer board , so it won’t turn off again after 20 minutes - and actually, if your timer board has failed and you need to keep your finger on the spring-loaded switch in order for the power light to come on - then it’ll probably fix that as well.

Obviously if you ever wanted to - or needed to for warranty purposes - you could return your machine to standard just as quickly and easily as you could fit this mod. It’s entirely reversible with no signs of ever being installed.
