The Tyrrell 011 was introduce in mid 1981 at the German Grand Prix in the hands of Eddie Cheever. It was designed by Maurice Philippe feauturing ground effect and powered by the 3.0-litre Cosworth DFV V8 engine. It was used for the whole 1982 season driven by Slim Borgudd, replaced after three races by Brian Henton, and by Michele Alboreto who managed to win his first ever F1 race during the 1982 Caesars Palace Grand Prix in Las Vegas. This race was also the last of 155 Grand Prix wins for the Cosworth DFV engine (a further victory came in 1983 when Cosworth provided Tyrrell a short-stroke version of their DFV, but it was called DFY).
The 011 was also used for most of the races of the 1983 season but it was very different compared to the previous years' one, no more with ground effect tunnels and a design more similar to the 012 which will replace it by the end of 1983.
Watch it in action during the 2019 Oldtimer GP at the Nürburgring for the German round of the Masters Historic F1 Championship round, driven by Jamie Constable!
