🔧 In this video, I’ll show you how to safely take apart an old hard drive to extract the powerful rare-earth magnets inside! These neodymium magnets are incredibly strong and useful for DIY projects, workshops, or even science experiments.
📌 Tools You’ll Need:
✔ Old hard drive (non-functional is best)
✔ Small Phillips screwdriver
✔ Torx screwdriver (T6, T8, or T9, depending on the drive)
✔ Flathead screwdriver or pry tool
✔ Needle-nose pliers (optional)
✔ Safety gloves & glasses (recommended)
🔨 Step-by-Step Disassembly:
1️⃣ Remove the Outer Screws – Take out the visible screws on the hard drive casing.
2️⃣ Open the Enclosure – Carefully pry open the metal cover (some have hidden screws under labels).
3️⃣ Locate the Platter & Actuator Arm – Inside, you’ll see circular disks (platters) and an arm with magnets.
4️⃣ Remove the Actuator Arm – Unscrew or gently pry the arm to access the magnets.
5️⃣ Extract the Magnets – They’re usually held in place with adhesive or small screws—carefully remove them.
⚠ WARNING: These magnets are VERY strong—handle with care to avoid pinching or damaging electronics!
💡 Cool Uses for Hard Drive Magnets:
DIY magnetic tools
Workshop organization
Science experiments
