Cibeles Fountain was designed by Ventura Rodriguez and sculpted in 1782. It depicts Cybele, the Greek goddess of nature and fertility, holding a sceptre and a key atop a chariot drawn by two lions. It stands in the centre of the Plaza de Cibeles
Palacio de Cibeles was built in 1909 by architect Antonio Palacios. originally as the headquarters of the country’s post office but now the Madrid City Hall.
The dome of the Edificio de Seguros La Aurora built in 1880 by Ramón Pla Monje has a statue of Roman goddess of the dawn Aurora driving a Quadriga, a four-horse chariot by Juan Adsuara 1920
The nearby Puerta de Alcalá in Plaza de Independencia was built in 1778 by Italian architect Francesco Sabatini. This triumphal gate was once the main entrance to the city. It was commissioned by King Charles III - over time nicknamed the Best Mayor of Madrid
