Some of our salmon eggs are beginning to hatch... and some are not! In this video, our classroom takes a close look at early-stage salmon development here in Michigan. These eggs are part of our Salmon in the Classroom project in partnership with the Michigan DNR, where we learn about the full salmon life cycle, from egg to release.
Our classroom is raising Chinook salmon as part of a hand-on scientific learning experience. Throughout the year, we will monitor water quality, growth stages, and habitat needs. When the salmon reach the smolt stage, we will release them into Michigan waterways with support from the Department of Natural Resources.
About the Project:
Salmon in the Classroom is a statewide educational program sponsored by the Michigan DNR that allows students to raise and release salmon while learning about the environmental stewardship, conservation, and native species.
