Happy New Year from Fukuoka!
Following my deep cleaning (Osoji) in the last video, it’s finally time to celebrate the Japanese New Year. In this video, I’m sharing our real, unfiltered holiday routine.
We start with a traditional New Year's Eve dinner at home in Fukuoka, enjoying Kaisen Nabe (seafood hot pot) and Toshikoshi Soba. Then, we take a short trip to visit our relatives in Kumamoto to experience a typical Japanese family gathering.
For "Hatsumode" (the first shrine visit of the year), we first visited a quiet, local shrine in our neighborhood for a peaceful prayer, followed by a trip to the famous Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. The contrast between the calm local shrine and the lively atmosphere (and amazing street food!) at Dazaifu is something I really wanted to show you.
This is how we welcome the new year in Japan — no filters, just our real life.
Locations:
Fukuoka City
Kumamoto Prefecture
