Free Western Movie starring Johnny Mack Brown & Fuzzy Knight as RAWHIDE RANGERS!

A montage of action clips opens up this Johnny Mack Brown starring western. That’s typical for B westerns. And RAWHIDE RANGERS from 1941 is your typical action and music filled B western with a plot you just may have seen before. Johnny Mack Brown and his brother are Texas Rangers. When his brother is killed, Johnny “quits” the Rangers and turns outlaw. Before you know it, he’s turned into a better criminal than the gang he’s after and they want him to join their gang. What do you think happens?

Brown, of course, is the hero and had been a football star at the University of Alabama. Instead of going pro, Johnny went Hollywood. Fortunately, these were still the silent days and Johnny’s thick Alabama accent didn’t stop him from gaining ground in the business and landing a contract at MGM. Before you could say “Talkies,” Johnny was co-starring with superstar Greta Garbo and up and coming starlet, Joan Crawford. Cast as Billy the Kid for director King Vidor in the early hit, BILLY THE KID, Johnny became typecast in westerns and went on to have an amazingly successful career as the hero of over 100 westerns.

In RAWHIDE RANGERS, Fuzzy Knight is once again his sidekick. Knight had been a vaudeville performer as a singer when Mae West discovered him and put him in her movie, SHE DONE HIM WRONG (1933). You can hear Fuzzy singing in TRAIL OF THE LONESOME PINE and SHEPHERD OF THE HILLS. But it’s as a B western sidekick that Fuzzy is best remembered. In the 1950s he joined Buster Crabbe, not as a western sidekick, but as a member of CAPTAIN GALLANT AND THE FOREIGN LEGION.

Texas born Nell O’Day launched her film career co-starred in short subjects with Harry Langdon, his later & lesser comedies. Nell was plucked by Universal to co-star with Brown because of her ability to ride horses…fast! She co-starred with Johnny and sidekick Fuzzy Knight in 12 B westerns. Worked in other western series with stars including Bob Steele, Tim Holt, Ray “Crash” Corrigan and starred in the Republic serial PERILS OF THE ROYAL MOUNTED.

You know it’s got a decent budget when the stagecoach being attacked by the bad guys has 6 horses instead of four! Now let’s get to the action.
