A recent post by the US Embassy in Dhaka announcing the arrival of American corn to Bangladesh has sparked controversy instead of excitement. The debate began on social media after users raised concerns that US corn is often grown using pig manure as fertiliser, which is sensitive in a Muslim-majority country where pork-related products are considered haram. Reports and AI responses cited USDA data indicating manure use on a portion of US corn fields. While the US Embassy has not commented yet, the issue has reignited past concerns in Bangladesh, where pig-related content in imported animal feed once led to bans.
