Harold Joseph "Happy" Hogan is the Head of Security of Stark Industries, and one of Tony Stark's closest friends. A former boxer, he was employed by Stark as a personal chauffeur and bodyguard, continuing to be in his service after his kidnapping in Afghanistan, and assisted him in taking down Ivan Vanko. Hogan was almost killed during Aldrich Killian's War, which motivated Stark to get revenge on the Mandarin, who he believed was behind Hogan's injuries. After his recovery, Hogan continued to faithfully serve as Stark's friend and employee.

Hogan oversaw Stark's mentorship over Peter Parker as Spider-Man, aiding the young hero on his trip to Germany and acting as their liaison when Parker continued his superhero activities. Initially irritated by the boy and avoiding his duties with him, Hogan grew to respect Parker when he delivered Vulture to justice, as he targeted a cargo plane under Hogan's supervision that was carrying equipment for the Avengers Compound.

Anthony Edward "Tony" Stark was a billionaire industrialist, a founding member of the Avengers, and the former CEO of Stark Industries. A brash but brilliant inventor, Stark was self-described as a genius, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist. With his great wealth and exceptional technical knowledge, Stark was one of the world's most powerful men following the deaths of his parents and enjoyed the playboy lifestyle for many years until he was kidnapped by the Ten Rings in Afghanistan, while demonstrating a fleet of Jericho missiles. With his life on the line, Stark created an armored suit which he used to escape his captors. Upon returning home, he utilized several more armors to use against terrorists, as well as Obadiah Stane who turned against Stark. Following his fight against Stane, Stark publicly revealed himself as Iron Man.

The Mark XXI Iron Man Armor (codenamed Midas) was Tony Stark's twenty-first Iron Man suit that was specialized for supersonic flight. It was a part of the Iron Legion. It was destroyed by the Clean Slate Protocol activated by Tony Stark.

The Mark I (Mark 1), is the first Iron Man suit built and created by Tony Stark. It was built in the initial events of the live-action film, Iron Man. The suit was later used as a model for Obadiah Stane's Iron Monger suit.

It was featured in the first Iron Man movie, and first appeared when Tony and Ho Yinsen were held captive by the terrorist group known as the Ten Rings. While they were held captive, Tony and Yinsen devised a plan. In the cave, they created the blueprints for the Mark I.

The suit was very crude, due to the limited tools and resources that were available. Its successor was the Mark II, built inside the Stark Mansion.
