Andrew Li plays Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 27 in E Minor Op 90

Andrew performed this at his recital in the Annual Summer Concert Series at NEC 2019 organized by Foundation of Chinese Performing Arts at the Burnes Hall in New England Conservatory.

Andrew's recital was hugely successful as the audience gave him standing ovations after the first half and at the end of the recital.

Immediate after the recital Andrew was invited to perform at a special event of the New England Conservatory.

Robert Finely, the president of the international piano competition for outstanding amateur pianists was completely impressed by Andrew's recital and wrote a music review as below:

Yesterday evening, Andrew Li gave a wonderful recital in Burnes Hall in the new building of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. This was part of the Annual Summer Concert Series organized by the Foundation for Chinese Performing Arts, founded by Cathy Chan. It was formerly at the Walnut Hill School in Natick.

Andrew is a phenomenal pianist, and at the young age of 19 has everything one could wish for in a great musician and artist. He has an incredible technique that makes everything look easy. He has a tremendous sense of poetry and imagination, and lets the audience wonder what is coming next. He has tremendous power where needed, a beautiful singing line, and an enormous palette of colours and sounds that mesmerize, move, excite and hold the attention of the audience.

He started the recital with Schubert's Impromptu in F minor op. 142. He made this sound like a song without words, and the middle section sounded like soprano and baritone singers answering one another.

His performance of the Beethoven Sonata op 90 was excellent, and in fact everything he played was one of the best performances I ever heard.

Andrew generated a lot of excitement with the Three movements from Petrushka by Stravinsky, and Pictures from an Exhibition by Mussorgsky. All the characters and scenes in the pieces were beautifully described in the music.

Andrew received a standing ovation and played Chopin's Etude in F major op.10 no. 8 which was really delightful. I can tell by watching him that he is enjoying every minute of playing, and his happiness comes through the music and is communicated to the audience. That is what music is all about.
