Thun Switzerland | Thun Castle, Old Town, and Scenic Riverwalk to Lake Thun | Thun Water Magic Show

Thun Switzerland: My final stop in Switzerland was the picturesque lakeside town of Thun. Upon arriving, I explored the charming medieval Old Town (Obere Hauptgasse), the 15th-century Town Hall Square, Thun Castle, and the scenic Aare River Walk with its iconic covered wooden bridges, before heading to Lake Thun.

The highlight of my visit was the 12th-century Thun Castle. While the museum inside didn’t fully meet my expectations, the breathtaking panoramic views of the city from the castle towers made it worthwhile. The old town's elevated sidewalks, lined with unique shops, restaurants, and cafés, were fun to browse. I especially enjoyed spending time in a Cat Lover’s store.

Strolling along the Aare River, crossing the covered wooden bridges (which also function as locks), and visiting Lake Thun in the afternoon was a peaceful experience. On a sunny day, taking a ferry across the lake would be perfect.

After dark, Thun transformed into a magical place. The illuminated Thun Castle and the vibrant old town created a lively atmosphere. At the Aare River, I enjoyed “Thun Water Magic,” a free nightly show featuring illuminated fountains dancing to music—a perfect grand finale to my Swiss journey.
