Lark Camp is coming up! Let's explore Lark's many classes, beginning with #choro, or #chorinho. Described as the "New Orleans jazz of Brazil," choro emerged in Rio de Janeiro, #Brazil in the late 19th century. And it influenced everything from Samba to Bossa Nova, to Brazilian Classical music… The name choro, is said to refer to crying. Its influences are interesting to note: Melodic styles from European ballroom dances, like polkas, #mazurkas, and waltzes. As well as #modinhas, sentimental early Brazilian love songs, and the uniquely Afro-Brazilian #goals lundu, which is syncopated rhythmic music with Bantu origins. The ensemble typically consists of instruments such as the flute, clarinet, 6 or 7-string guitar, cavaquinho, and pandeiro. Choro invites listeners to embark on a delightful journey into the heart of Brazilian music, with infectious rhythms, intricate melodies, and masterful improvisation. Experience the captivating world of Choro at Lark Camp, with Pam Laughlin, from July 28th to August 5th. Come unite cultures and hearts through the universal language of #music.
