A classic 15-20° “fluffy” snow arrives this evening: sticks immediately, treatments struggle (rock salt often ineffective). Biggest burst in the first 4-5 hours, then lighter overnight.
Timing & Intensity
• Arrives W→E this evening: into much of eastern SNE by ~10:30 PM; near I-93 soon after; Route 16 after midnight; southern Maine largely misses.
• Rates: CT up to 2–3”/hr; central MA 1–1.5”/hr; eastern MA ¾–1”/hr.
• Local NE wind enhancement just inland in Plymouth County (Plymouth→Duxbury→Marshfield→Cohasset).
• Wind mostly light (10–15 mph), edging 20–25 mph coast pre-dawn.
Totals (most likely)
• CT & southern Berkshires: 8-12"+ pockets; widespread 6-8" / 4-6" nearby.
• Interior SNE north/east of there: 4-6" and 2-4" for many, 1-2" for some - Cape Cod gets into snow, too!
• Farther N/NE (to Route 16 NH) amounts drop off; southern ME very little.
Roads
• Sticks on contact; fluffy snow fills pavement pores - plows/scrapers needed.
• Breaks of sun Saturday help treated surfaces, but refreeze Saturday night → black ice.
Next up
• Sunday day = best travel window.
• Sun eve/night: next system brings freezing rain/rain interior SNE, snow to mix north.
