Once known by the name Fyrin ho' kloof, the Ancient woodland stretching from Moston to Blackley in Manchester is today known as Boggart Hole Clough.
An area steeped in history, and a woodland since the Bronze Age, it is also said to be the home of a malevolent sprite known as a Boggart. Over the last 3 centuries, there have been many reports of children going missing and never being seen again. Were they lost in the dense woods, or were they grabbed by this supernatural and evil folklore character?
Numerous boggarts have been reported across Lancashire and Yorkshire since the 18th Century, some just mischievous but others luring children to their fate. Today, a boggartvis best known as a shape-shifting character from Harry Potter.
