Kariong Public School is one of 10 schools in the Solving Organic Waste (SOW) program in 2025. Each term they have a scheduled Food Scrap Friday visit from RUMBALARA Environmental Education Centre staff to see how they are progressing with diverting food waste from landfill and to support their actions and problem-solving.
Resources have been developed for each school to use to train their staff, students, cleaners and general assistants. Extra support visits and Teams Drop-in sessions are available. The SOW program is a pilot to inform the rollout of food waste diversion from public schools across NSW beginning July 2026.
