Governor Hope Uzodinma has presented a ₦1.4 trillion budget proposal for Imo State in 2026, marking one of the largest budgets in the state’s history.
Tagged the “Budget of Economic Breakthrough,” the proposal places a heavy emphasis on capital expenditure, with infrastructure, power, health, and industrial development taking center stage.
Notably, over 80% of the budget is allocated to capital projects, with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure Development receiving the highest share. While the government argues that this approach will drive economic growth, job creation, and long-term development, many citizens are asking critical questions:
Will massive infrastructure spending translate into real improvements in daily life?
Are social services and human development receiving enough attention?
How transparent and sustainable is this level of spending?
What do you think? Is Imo State on the right path, or should priorities be rebalanced?
